Description

You know how annoying it is when you've set up for a shot and a satellite, or worse an aeroplane flies through the first frame. Here are M84, M86 and friends in Virgo, with ISS and an 'interloper' marking out Markarian's chain - I hope they had a great view.

I've been meaning to image this all spring. With my DSI IIC OSC attached to a Pentax zoom lens, I could get a good field at 120mm, with sufficient detail in 2min subs. I did try and remove these 'satellites' using Startools 'heal' but difficult not just to get a black void instead. So, I'll leave them in, and as a tribute to the amazing ingenuity and science going on aboard ISS, and the global collaboration which make these possible.

It has been great to have so few planes during the current crisis. I for one don't mind if our skies are a bit clearer (and cleaner) for a while. As for satellites (ISS excepted), I notice so many more, including those Starlink satellites, now spreading apart, but still appearing with annoying regularity. Hopefully when they are in 'stealth mode' they won't leave a black trail! Someone needs to develop some software to predict when Astro imagers will be photo-bombed...any offers?

Description: This image of Markarian's chain at 210mm with zoom lens, and 120s exposures (total 44min). I had to focus manually using Envisage focus tool, but not sure it is quite there. Only one faint satellite train, which I managed to largely mask by adjusting the black point.
