Description

20210720 - (CAS) NGC 281 - The PacMan Nebula

What was the experience
With the current run of Clear Skies, I’m trying to capture as much photons as I can (and losing a lot of sleep 😳). But there still needs to be a life during the daytime as well!. There are bike-rides 🚴 to be made during the daytime, tot enjoy the nice summer weather ☀️. Processing this a bit later after a long bike ride. Still only quick and dirty processing to get an early result 😉 (straightforward stacking, color calibration, saturation and vibrancy). The ‘real’ processing is planned for the upcoming ‘Cloudy Nights’. When the rain starts falling down, it will be the revision-era 😎

What’s in the picture(s)NGC 281 - The PacMan Nebula - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NGC_281
Quote: “NGC 281, IC 11 or Sh2-184 is a bright emission nebula and part of an H II region in the northern constellation of Cassiopeia and is part of the Milky Way's Perseus Spiral Arm. Colloquially, NGC 281 is also known as the Pacman Nebula for its resemblance to the video game character”

How it was done
Mount: SW EQ6-R Pro
Guiding: ASIAIR Pro, ZWO30F4, ASI120MM (RA guiding only - still haven’t properly connected the mount yet)
Scope: WO RedCat 51
Camera: ASI183MC ProResolution: 1,98”/pixel, FoV 218’
Filter: Optolong L-Extreme
Moon: 86%(+) but nearly set, Bortle 5/6 SQM 19.60
Photons:  Gain 125, cooling -10, 300s, 45x Darks 11x - from a previous session (not enough to fully remove the amp-glow, but doing this Q&D to get an early result)
Processing: Siril, Adobe Photoshop (Mac) - Quick&Dirty processing, no sub-selection
Astrobin:
IG: @astrowaut

What have I learned from this
Planning and organisation remains a skill with multiple mounts. Nearly run out of planned script, as the object I was aiming for with the other scope was behind the roof, and because of that nearly lost time on aligning the RedCat to his own target.Choose and plan your targets up-front, and take into account roofs, trees and other crazy things in the line of sight 🙃🔭

Clear Skies everybody! 🤩✨🔭

Title: Re-processed as HOO-palette, trying to improve on the original 'simple, straight, OSC' processing

Description: 20220112 - Cloudy Nights = Education time 🤩 - Re-processing ‘old data’ in a new way … using PixInsight, as HOO-palette, splitting the L-Extreme image in Ha and Oiii component, boosting the Oiii component, trying the fornaxx-formula, using Ha as Luminance. Not the perfect result I wanted, but ‘better’ compared to the first ’simple, straight’ processing. Darks only (didn’t make flats at the time)- Just testing out the how the processing skills have evolved to see what I can make of this
