Description

Perhaps the most famous star cluster in the sky, the Pleiades (also known as the Seven Sisters) are about 400 light years distant in the constellation Taurus. Dominated by hot blue and luminous stars that have formed within the last 100 years, reflection nebulae surround them as they pass through a dust cloud in the interstellar medium. Keen eyed observers may be able to spot the small spiral galaxy UGC 2838.
