Description

The 31st of October, I planned a trip to the Canaries Islands to visit the Cumbre Vieja, the erupting volcano on La Palma Island.

After more than 30 hours of travel, I finally arrived on the island with the sole purpose of seeing all this astonishing power coming from way below our feet. Spoiler alert: I was not disappointed.

Pictures don't show the impressive power of the sound and earthquakes coming from the volcano. It was a unique experience to be there. 300 meters high lava fountains, lava bombs, giant lava flows, ash rainfall and so on, plus one of the clearest skies on earth, I couldn’t be happier.

One night, I decided to drive to the Roque de Los Muchachos, the highest point on the island, where we find many ESA observatories. From there, I found the exact location I was three years ago, when I was on a trip with the local astronomy club and took pictures all night long.
The picture I took 3 years ago...

I left the island after 4 very intense days, leaving behind amazing memories and nice people.
