Description

Where is what I consider my best deep-sky image to date M78 in Orion, with over 16h of Ha and a total integration time of more than 33h.

M78 is also known as ‘Casper the Friendly Ghost Nebula’ and was discovered in early 1780 by Pierre Méchain who accurately described it as “two fairly bright nuclei, surrounded by nebulosity.” It is easily seen with a small telescope during winter and is an amazing target for astrophotographers, especially if you combine the surrounding Ha with reflection RGB data.
