NGC891

NGC891 is a beautiful edge-on disk galaxy. I have some particular connection to it as it was the target for the first light image of the Large Binocular Telescope in Arizona (at first light still a monocular telescope. The conditions were far from ideal (nearly full moon), but I took it to get further exercise with my equipment - which is 30x smaller than a single LBT mirror ... :-) - considering the circumstances, I think it is ok to upload a first version, I guess in due time I will add/replace subs taken under more favorable conditions.

Description: The first version was only based one one night, at suboptimal conditions. Topping of considerably in subsequent weeks, and some revisions in the work flow give a considerably better result.

Description: reprocessing NGC891 (no new data for several weeks now owing to cloudy skies in Germany) - first experiments with the Generalized Hyperbolic stretch script by @Mike and @David Payne (see https://www.astrobin.com/forum/c/astrophotography/deep-sky-processing-techniques/how-to-improve-your-astro-images/ and https://www.astrobin.com/forum/c/astrophotography/deep-sky-processing-techniques/alternative-image-stretching-for-mathematically-bent-pixinsight-users-from-linear-to-non-linear-quicker-easier-and-better/ for more details). Still getting used to it, but it seems quite nice to focus and work out detail in your data. And I also has a lighter hand on sharpening (which was overdone in revision C).

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.

Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
