Description

My first attempt at a comet picture in 2 1/2 years. Now I remember why I don't shoot them very often. They're *hard* to process. I shot this with my small telescope and managed preserve a hint of the tail, but bigger, better scopes with more experienced hands produce images with the tail being two or three fine, white filaments. My little thing just can't resolve that at this distance. This picture was shot when the comet was on its closest approach to the sun, so it was roughly 93 million miles away. Being a glutton for punishment, if the weather is clear at the right time next week, I'll try again when it's much closer to us.
