Description

The Pillars of Creation!

It still amazes me that amateur astrophotographers like me are able to capture the same object that the NASA Hubble telescope made famous decades ago. Advancements in equipment and processing have come a really long way!

Found inside the Eagle Nebula (Messier 16), the pillars are massive structures of dense cosmic gas and dust. They're a precursor to new star creation and are also being shaped by the stellar winds of the young stars that have already been created all around them.

This is my first proper 'milky way season' target for this year. It involved some early morning captures, but we had a really great run of clear evenings last week.

This is just over 5hrs of Hydrogen/Oxygen/Sulphur exposures, plus another 3hrs of one-shot colour data.

All images were captured from my Bortle 8 backyard near  Toronto with an EdgeHD 925 telescope and ZWO 1600MM + 2600MC cooled astro cameras.
