Description

This is a 6 panel mosaic of the Witch Head Nebula in the constellation of Eridanus (The River); and is formally known as IC2118.This is a reflection nebula which glows primarily by light reflected from the blue supergiant star, Rigel (the brightest star in the neighbouring constellation of Orion). The colour of this very blue nebula is caused not only by the blue colour of Rigel, but also because the dust grains in the nebula reflect blue light more efficiently than red. A similar physical process that causes Earth's daytime sky to appear blue.
