Description

In between clouds, I got 30 minutes of data on C/2022 E3 (ZTF). This lump of ice, rock and dust made its way from the outer solar system and has an estimated size of around 1 km. At the time of taking this picture, it was roughly 50 million kilometers away from us.

Its characteristic green colour is clearly visible. A closer look reveals its tail extending towards the bottom left corner. 30 minutes is not much data to go with, but all in all I'm quite happy with this picture!

I tried to simultaneously stack the stars and the comet using the corresponding option in DSS, but was not much pleased with the result. I guess the tail was poorly stacked with this option. Then I decided to separately stack the image according to the stars, and according to the comet, and then combine those images. This gave me more work (including removing the stars in the "comet" picture and the comet in the "stars" picture), but overall a better result.
