Description

One thing I'm learning about this hobby is just when you think you are getting the hang of things, a new target comes along and humbles you real quickly. This ended up being one of those targets. After semi-successfully conquering the Squid Nebula, I added this to my list of challenging targets. This ended up proving to be exceptionally difficult and I'm still not happy with the result so I will probably continue to rework the data as I try to build on my processing skills.

All the Bin 1 subs for a 2 panel mosaic had my Ryzen 7 3700X CPU wheezing during the stacking process. Once I managed to get the data stacked, the processing proved to be super challenging. StarExterminator left a lot of artifacts after star removal which impacted the faint nebulosity. I ended up trying every trick I could think of to preserve detail. I think it ended up being semi-recognizable so I decided to take a break on this one for awhile.

Title: SH2-240, The Spaghetti Nebula (V2 to Enhance Oiii Signal)

Description: Thank goodness the clouds have finally cleared out of Arizona so that I can image some new targets. I collected over 50 hours of data on this target and I'm to embarrassed to confess how much time I put into attempting to get the Oiii signal to show.

This is still short of what I've seen others do but I did make some progress and learn a lot of new techniques. First and foremost is if you first don't succeed, try again and again and again...

I found this target to be much tougher than the Squid Nebula. The Oiii signal on this target is so intertwined with the Ha that processing is certainly a challenge. Oh well, it's time to move on.
