Description

Another happy wide angle view of our summer sky when looking straight up. The summer triangle represents the zenith, approximately. While my other 2 rigs were busy shooting the stars off the sky I had some spare time and the 14mm lens with me. New horizons....

This is a stack of 11 frames at 15 sec each, taken on a fixed tripod, no tracking! I wanted to try how this would work and I found that PI seems not be able to catch the stars in the corners nicely although I had the distortion correction turned on. In each singleframe the stars are dots in the corners while the geometry is distorted, of course, it's a 14mm, how could it not?! Aperture was wide open. As the earth rotates the frame moves on and other areas become distorted so, the stars gain some offset in addition to earth's rotation only. So, lesson learned is: when you have a tracker, don't be lazy, use it! :-) Will do next time!

I hope you enjoy it anyway ;-)
