Description

Rupes Altai is the Moon's most prominent escarpment feature. It stretches 427 km in an arc ending at the crater Piccolomini. Its height is estimated at 1km.

For comparison, in Southern Ontario, Canada we have the Niagara Escarpment (which continues into New York, Michigan and Wisconsin). It is much longer, but reaches a maximum height of 335m. It is most famous for being responsible for Niagara Falls.
