Description

Synchronic bands are weak low contrast structures visible in the dust tail of some comets. They are thought to be connected with the slow rotation of the nucleus, perhaps held together also by electrostatic forces acting within the same "family" of powders. The production mechanism is not very clear, but perhaps it is due to the activation of jets during the illuminated phase which turn off at night.
