Description

NGC 2264
Rosette Nebula

I'm not going into detail about the Rosette Nebula as we have all photographed this one, but this was First Light on my new OSC 9.25 SCT rig. I spent a lot of time setting up last night with some bumps and successes and I would be lying if I said this was my intended target as my initial target didn't go too smooth. This was more of a convenient last second backup target to get some data just to get the ball rolling on OSC acquisition and processing. I was only able to collect a couple of hours on this one before sunrise due to some unforeseen "first light" circumstances.

This was also my first experience on collimating an SCT so it was a bit of a task figuring that out but the Tri-Bahtinov/Collimation mask I used was very helpful. I opted for a guide scope over an OAG, but guiding was better than my DSO refractor rig, so for now I will stay with it.

Next time I will be ready to dive right into collecting subs on my primary target as most of the bugs and settings have been resolved. OSC processing with the Foraxx Palette made for some interesting results so I will be revisiting that in the future.

Overall, a successful night.

Thanks, Eddie
