Description

My first capture of elusive and beautiful Medusa Nebula. This is the dimmest DSO that I've attempted to capture thus far. It was especially challenging not doing it at a true dark site. My Edge11/HyperStar configuration really made the effort easier. Running at f/2 it's a pretty big light bucket. With the Medusa having a magnitude of approx. 15.99, and being incredibly dim, it was amazing that I could collect this level of data in less than 3hrs. Used my Optolong L-Extreme Dual Band Filter really helped mitigate the local LP on my side of town. I continue to have pretty good luck doing only a visual polar alignment. This approach seems to work well up to at least 5min exposures that I typically do. Everything was controlled by the ASIAIR Pro, including a successful meridian flip. Least I forget to mention that everything was supported on top of my small Atlas EQ-G mount!
