Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a merger of 3 galaxies located 0.7 billion light years away in the constellation of Cancer at a declination of +15 degrees.  The object spans 50 arc-seconds in our apparent view, which corresponds to a width of 170,000 light years.

Although a tiny object, there are a lot of interesting details here.  Each of the galaxies is a different color, ranging from yellow to orange to blue.  A dark dust band is visible at center and star streams extend in 3 directions.  All 3 appear to be spiral galaxies to me – 2 each at 70,000 light years in diameter and one at 25,000 light years in diameter.
