Description

The Christmas Tree Nebula also referred to as NGC 2264, is an extraordinary region in the Monoceros constellation that blends an emission nebula and a star cluster. Its distinctive triangular shape, reminiscent of a Christmas tree, is easily recognizable in certain images. At the top of the "tree" sits S Monocerotis, a young variable star. The area brims with young stars, some still in the process of formation. This region is a thriving hub of star formation activity, where new stars are constantly emerging from the gas and dust surrounding them.
