Description

Love these long winter nights, I was able to get 9 hours of data in one night and surprisingly all them scored well.  Here is two different version of the nebula, the first one was mostly processed in APP and the second one was processed in PI using PI's new Hubble Palette videos.  Not sure which one I like better, the APP version seems to show the detail better and definitely shows the LDN nebula better, but I like the color of the PI version better.

Obviously this is a really popular target to image and a fairly easy target to image using NB filters.  It is interesting that when you see all these bright images, the nebula actually has a very low surface brightness and it tough to view through a scope.  Most believe this nebula is illuminated by Menkib, a hot blue-white spectral star. Menkib is very noticeable in this image and has a bit of a purple halo since I did not get any RGB images of the stars, I did so some purple reduction, but I left a bit.  Menkib is the 12 brightness star in Perseus and is one of the hottest and most massive stars visible to the naked eye.
