Description

No clouds today ! It was a good opportunity to test the Sol'Ex spectroheliograph (see my other post) in real conditions.

This time, no Barlows, in order to let the image of the sun enter the slit without having to do stiching of images afterwards...

I exposed 6ms, to allow me to sweep the sun in a few seconds.

The resolution is not good yet, but that's my first image.

Following instructions from Christian Buil, I could do an OK-ish focus and use the INITI and iSpec softwares to build back the images and dopplergram (that is here superimposed with "color mode" on the main inverted image).

I used a Hoya ND16 (4 stops attenuation) filter to reduce the flux of the sun incoming to the slit. I couldn't do Calcium K lines because too much light seems to be killed by the filter, and I admit I was a bit lost in the spectrum to recognize those lines

Thanks to the dopplergram, you can put into evidence some interesting information. For example the upper-left protuberance is blueish while the sun on this side is redish (lights coming toward us), which gives us information on the direction of movement from this protuebrance (away from us).

I can't tell how much I love this instrument already !
