Description

The Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237) is a spherical ionized hydrogen region located in the constellation Monoceros. This nebula is famous for its unique shape, which resembles a rose. It is about 5,200 light-years away from Earth. The Rosette Nebula consists of several parts, including NGC 2237 itself, NGC 2244 (the central open cluster), and several other associated nebulae. NGC 2244's stars sculpt the surrounding gas and dust with their intense stellar winds and radiation, creating the nebula's characteristic structure. These young, hot stars are created through the star formation process within the nebula.
