Description

All I had were problems shooting this target. Sadly I made a drastic error when I did not take the correct flats after the first imaging session, so I ended up with significant flat field correction errors when I tried using the second night flats. Also I got these weird color artifacts which is why I cropped the image quite significantly. I had to push the black point hard to hide the flat field errors. Ah well live and learn. This is Caldwell 44 / NGC7479. It is pretty small, 4.1′ × 3.1′ in size. It is a 105 million light-years away. I was itching to try a small galaxy without waiting for galaxy season. Last galaxy season I was using the AT130EDT and I felt that galaxies that are in the 20-40 million light years range were doable, anything farther was too small to tackle. So it is encouraging that now I can extend my reach to things that are now 100 million light years away and still get away with a decent picture.

I had to crop it significantly and push the background blackpoint just to get all the artifacts out unfortunately.
