Description

An unexpected clear night in a period of rainy days allowed me to capture M101. The temperature was quite high and the humidity of the air stayed constantly above 90%. The dew point stayed very close to the air temperature. I didn't expect a lot but it turned out, that the images (the object was quite high in the sky) were quite good. So I decided to process the image entirely in PixInsight to get into this (for me) new program. It was the first image I entirely processed in PI. Photoshop was only used to crop the image in an aspect ratio of 2:3, which I usually use.

I am quite happy with the result. I really have to adress the optical problems on the bright stars. Maybe, shorter exposure times will work, but I still have problems to integrate images in PI with a low SNR.

There is not much done in terms of image processing. I stacked the subs with the WBPP script, denoised the single color channels with the EZ decon script, did a deconvolution run (standard deconvolution process) and combined the images after stretching the single channels. At last, I did a little bit of curve adjustments and it was done. Compared to my Photoshop work (which I am also not really experienced with), the colors and the background is much better now.

I know, there are a lot of things you can do to the image. But PixInsight is really uncommon for me and for a beginner also quite overwhelming (not to say comlicated). So I am really excited to get a picture like this out of my subs. I am really happy!
