Description

This imaging session was special and I'm really happy about the result. So many new things that I added to my rig were involved and I was not sure if i would manage to get at least something out.
Also the target is special for me. When I was a kid, we had a planetarium close to our home that we visited from time to time. This was in the late 1970s and early 1980s. So astro images were done analog on film. In the entrance they had some large photographs of planets and deep sky objects and the one I remember most was the horsehead nebula. I could not understand why this thing was shaped like chess knight but it was a photograph - so it must have been real. I think without even knowing this image planted a seed to drag me into astrophotography 40 years later.

New thing in this session were:
1) first time using my HEQ-5 after it was modified for a belt drive
2) first time using the ASIAir
3) first time using autoguiding
4) first time using the TS Optivs 61EDPH after I've got a replacement front objective from Sharpstar
5) first time testing out a new remote location (about 15 minutes from home) with a good view to the sky in all directions
6) first time running my mobile setup in my car with 2,4kWh batterie, small heater, WiFi access to my equipment from the car

As this was primarily a test for all the new stuff I was surprised how well everything went. It took some time to set up and even a in the field firmware update to the  ASIAir worked fine. Polaralignment worked in the first try and framing my target as well.
Even autoguiding worked without any issues and stayed around one arcsecond during the session with a resolution of about 1.8 arcseconds/pixel.
I used the live feature from ASIAir to stack the incoming images already to have a preview with the setting that all images are saved to my USB stick as well.
Sitting in my car, watching the setup collecting data was amazing. I had time to just watch the night sky and enjoy the last days of the winter sky here in Germany.

And finally getting an image in a (for me) excellent quality and detail was the cherry on top of an already big pile of ice-cream :-)
