Description

NGC2573 is the closest object to the southern celestial pole in the NGC catalogue.

At magnitude 14 and measuring just 1.9 x 0.7', this was definitely a challenge with a 4" scope, but I was pleased to pull out some details in the irregular disc of this galaxy.

Imaging this close to the pole was definitely interesting! Ensuring consistent frame rotation from night to night was difficult, and watching the large swings in right ascension as NINA tried to centre the image was disconcerting.

As far as I can tell, this is a first on Astrobin object, other than extreme wide-fields of the south polar region. Enjoy!
