Description

The Crab Nebula is a supernova remnant.  The nebula was the first astronomical object identified that corresponds with a historical supernova explosion.  It corresponds with a bright supernova recorded  by Chinese astronomers in 1054.  The nebula is 6,500 light years from Earth. It has a diameter of 11 light years, and is expanding at a rate of about 930 miles per second.
