Description

The Soul Nebula (Westerhout 5) is an emission nebula located in the constellation Cassiopeia, located about 6,500 light years away and it is about 100 light years across with an estimated age of 1 Million years. It is "near" to its celestial neighbour, the Heart Nebula (IC 1805) which are common main targets for astrophotographers.

The Soul Nebula contains several open clusters of stars, a large radio source known as W5, and huge evacuated bubbles formed by the winds of young massive stars.

The final picture is a product of a SHO and HOO combination, using 85% of the total frames acquired.
