Description

I was wondering whether an LP filter is really necessary, hence the title. The last night I imaged this (or, "most recent", as I could add to this in the next couple weeks), we were two days away from 1st quarter moon, and I was only using a UV/IR filter, no LP - and Pixinsight's DBE smacked down any hint of gradient before I even saw it.

Damn....

I think the way to go (as others have observed before me) is to not bother with magic beans filters, just shoot. If you've got light pollution or a bright moon, then yeah, you're going to have shoot a LOT of short exposures and go a LONNGGGG integration time...
