Description

Cederblad 214 aka Sh2-171 aka NGC 7822. A large emission nebula in Cepheus about 3000 light years away. It also contains a young open cluster Berkley 59.

It contains star-forming structures similar to the Pillars of Creation. These are shaped by the nebula's primary source of illumination the star BD+66 1673. It is a very hot star with luminosity 100,000 times the Sun's.
