Description

I have not posted new data since November of 2021 due to poor weather, a dead laptop, and a ZWO camera driver that just would not play well in the ASCOM sandbox.  After finally getting everything downloaded onto my laptop, many hours were spent trying to get the camera to function to no avail.  Finally, I decided to try the ASI studios software, which does not use an  ASCOM driver for the camera.  Sure enough it worked.  Tired of beating my head on the wall, I decided to try the ASI studios for data acquisition.  In the end--its really no different than any of the other decent acquisition platforms.  I still have to get to know it better--but I was able to capture 151 120 sec red subs.  I am sure most will think it a waste of time to post the image.  Normally I would agree, but under the circumstances I could not help myself.  Over 4 months without being able to image is way to long.  I am still not satisfied with the camera--for example, I was very careful to collect decent flats and flat darks and 120sec darks for what should have been a perfect calibration.  But, one dust bunny was not fully removed.  It can only be seen if I hyper stretch the image, but it shouldn't be there at all.  I plan to upgrade to the ASI 2600 and that should eliminate my camera woes--well, I am really thinking about the Altair version of the 2600--ZWO rendered my camera unusable except for on their platform because they couldn't create an appropriate driver for a 4 year old camera and the new ASCOM.  Also--they still haven't gotten back to me.  members of the Diffraction Limited team spent many hours on my computer helping me try to solve this--and its not even their camera! (I did think the problem was Maxim DL at first, so that is how they got involved--but still, ZWO didn't even respond for their own product)

So I am posting the data.  I could not make this data look any better.  I tried for many hours.  I could make some of the image look better--but always at the expense of another part of the image.  This is the best I could do for all pixels.  In reality, its pretty poor.  This is 5 hours of exposure.  If I stick to this pattern, the LRGB image will have 25 hours (5 each of RGB and 10 lum).  Based on the red channel, I don't think that will be nearly enough.  And this is Bin3--so really more like 15 hours instead of 5.   Transparency was poor, though seeing was pretty good (Linear stack has a FWHM of 2.2--subs ranging from 1.7 to 2.6.  1.7 is good for my sky).
