Description

Here is my 2 panel mosaic of the Heart and Fish Head Nebulae in the Hubble Palette taken over the last two months. I processed this in SHO or the Hubble Palette but plan to take a stab at doing it in a more natural looking HSO or HOO .

The Heart and Fish Head Nebulae are emission nebulae located in the constellation of Cassiopeia roughly 7,500 light years from Earth. The ionized gas in the Heart Nebula is currently being powered by a small open cluster of young massive stars near the Nebula’s center. This open cluster known as Melotte 15 also includes some beautiful cloud structures which have been shaped by the nearby massive stars. One of my favorite things about deep sky astrophotography are the little objects you find when imagining a larger more well known object. In this case during processing I found what looks like a very distant spiral galaxy just above the Heart Nebula (in the upper right of the second image). Despite my best efforts I can’t find anything online about this object, if anyone knows what this is please let me know!
