Description

This is a supernova remnant in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is about 9,800 light year from us, and has a diameter of almost 100 light years! The light from the far edge took more than your lifetime to reach us as compared to the light from the leading edge.

The OIII is fairly bright along the edge of the bubble, but there are interesting waves of OIII signal outside of this boundary as well. PK116 looks like the pin that burst the balloon!

I had to work at getting some contrast between CTB 1 and the surrounding nebulosity to give the image some depth.
