Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a pair of interacting galaxies located 420 million light years away in the constellation of Aries at a declination of +15 degrees.  Each galaxy spans about 45 arc-seconds in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 90,000 light years.

The contrasting blue and yellow colors of these galaxies are fascinating.  My favorite part of the image, as seen especially in the Hubble mouseover comparison, is how the dust lanes are smearing across these 2 galaxies.

I have included this pair in my Galaxy Merger - M3 collection, which is a collection of 30 different merging objects where a pair of galaxies have 2 distinct cores in close proximity.
