A rather poor image even by my standards, which I have included to see what difference a dedicated 7nm Ha filter has over my tri-band Optolong L-eNhance filter, used in recent images. I have always found that strong moonlight produces a lot of noise with this, which I expect is via OIII channel. These data were captured just after the full moon.

Under a very bright sky, with fairly poor seeing and variable transparency due to high cloud / haze, I only managed 2 hours data. This represents the best 60% of the frames aligned and stacked in ASTAP. I had great trouble removing gradients in Startools, relying on a very aggressive wipe. Some contrast was applied with gentle deconvolution and dimming of foreground stars.

The Ha signal shines through but resolution is poor due to significant under sampling and poor SNR. I managed the noise reduction quite aggressively but pleased to see the absence of walking noise which has blighted recent images, and which I believe may also be due to OIII component; I look to my narrowband experts to confirm whether this is the case.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
