Description

Hi astro-nuts, here is the central area of the large Heart Nebula (IC1805) in constellation Cassiopeia, imaged with the Taka TSA120 @900mm focal length and Nikon D5500 modded by JTW. The final image is cropped to better focus on the main features : Melotte 15 and surrounding clouds of gas and dusts. I found this part of the nebula very attractive and decided to give a try and to see how much faint nebulositie I could gather with my f/7.5 refractor and OSC. Unfortunately, my mount ran out of power after "only" 33 frames but that makes at least 165 min to play with in Pixinsight ;-)

Melotte 15 is located about 7'500 l-y away from home and is a rich young stars' nursery about 1.5 My. old. The open cluster ionizes the surrounding nebulosity and give its red tint.

The night was really good : seeing and transparency offering excellent conditions to shot. I drove 30' to reach a nice spot at 1'200 m. on the Jura Mountains. A perfect night under the stars :-) The only drawback is that the power station decided to stop the session too early… Well, need to thing about recharging it before going outside... :-P

Hope you will enjoy this new image and feel free to leave a comment :-) Clear skies and stay well!

Christophe
