Description

Sometime ago, I attempted an SHO image of the diffuse Ha emission nebula Gum12b w ith my Nikon 200mm f/2 camera.  It wasn't that interesting.  Over the last couple of weeks, while waiting for Scorpius to rise, I have been grabbing an hour of two of OSC data on the same object.

The resultant OSC image wasn't that interesting either.  So I put the two together, and the result is almost interesting.

Looking a bit like a Southern version of the California nebula the SHORGB image picks out a little more structure, not least in the very faint blue/[OIII] emission.  Although I am not a fan of starless images, the starless version does help show more of the detail in the nebula itself.  Even if it is somewhat subtle.

65 x 300 OSC
140 x 600 SHO
