Description

IC 1284 is a 7th magnitude emission nebula appearing in Sagittarius, 1400 light years from Earth. Visually, it is located between the Lagoon Nebula (M8) and the Omega Nebula (M17). In this image it is the central pinkish nebula whose color come from ionized hydrogen. To lower left of IC 1284 is reflection nebula IC 1283 with its characteristic blue color caused when starlight is scattered by dust. The whole complex is surrounded by dark nebula and the golden Milky Way star cloud.
