Description

A few more clear nights!  But oh man, the heat!  Crazy SoCal heatwave, making it hard for the poor little camera's TEC cooler to get the temperature down.  I know-- we are spoiled here -- a night of 78 deg F (~26 C) probably sounds downright balmy to most people.

After completing North America, I decided to continue in the same area with IC 5070, the "Pelican Nebula".  Now that I have the WO FLT91 setup running smoothly, I'm afraid to change anything in the configuration, so the EdgeHD (with or without Hyperstar) will have to wait until I have a long streak of clear skies and plenty of time.  For this image, I gathered about 10 hours of Ha, OIII, and SII over three nights.

Pretty happy with the detail that can be seen when you zoom in: the swirling clouds of gas and filaments of dust in this rich star forming emission nebula are vaguely suggestive of a Pelican face, although I'm not sure I see it :-).
