Description

Sh2-173 is an emission nebula about 8,800 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is a H II region. The nebulosity and the dust distribution resemble the iconic mask in the musical the Phantom of the Opera. Although I think it looks more like a Japanese Tengu mask.

Signals are mostly picked up by the Ha filter. I cannot tell if my OIII filter collected any nebula signal at all. The star colors are from RGB data with their luminance from narrowband data.
