Description

This comet has been eluding me - a couple of failed efforts in the early spring were thwarted by the weather, now it is getting very low, and a last effort.

Just 10 minutes (30s exposures) have provided enough data to extract a little detail in the turbulent tail. It is so low from my latitude that there was only time for luminance  data with my DSI3 CCD camera.  The original image is full frame (just 1360 x 1024) , and the mouseover, a crop to show a little more detail.

This comet discovered in 1800s, has an orbital period of around 71 years and is approaching maximum magnitude (~5) at 241,081,002 kilometers from Earth.

Happy Easter all.
