Description

The Embryo Nebula (NGC 1333). NGC 1333 is a chaotic star forming region in the Perseus molecular cloud, and an instant favorite.  This image captures more than 17 hours of broadband data (using the Optolong UV/IR cut filter) spread across 3 relatively moonless nights.  Although quite a tall order under Bortle 8 skies, I was hoping to capture as much of the dust surrounding the reflection nebula as I could manage, so I used only the best subframes, and I actually discarded 7 hours of data (including an entire night's worth) that just didn't make the cut.  That curation left me with a very satisfying stack that required little post-processing.  I'm always encouraged when I get a result like this under light-polluted skies--it makes me wish I could shoot 100% broadband all the time!
