Description

My first attempt at IC1396 under bright summer skies - taken over two nights to maximise integration. I hope to add a third with RGB data, but thought I'd post the L (NBF) data taken through my Optolong L-eNhance filter (Ha, Hb, OIII), which shows some reasonable contrast. 51 x 120s frames were aligned and stacked with 60% quality filter in ASTAP and then processed in Startools with standard workflow.

IC1396 is a dense region of dust and nebulosity within the star cluster IC1396 2,400 LY away. The left portion is designated IC1396B and the middle IC1396A. The bright star vdB142 lies adjacent to the dense globule at the right side within which are two protostars. The trunk extends some 20 LY and to the right (outside the FOV) lies HD 206267 which is thought to 'power' this complex emission nebula.

Description: This time I aligned and stacked all my frames using ASTAP (99% quality). The extra SNR has definitely smoothed the background and brought out more detail and contrast. Definitely looking forward to adding chrominance frames to this now.
