NGC 1333 & Co. standen schon länger auf meiner Beobachtungsliste. Im Astrourlaub unter dem dunklen und klaren Himmel von La Palma habe ich dies nun umgesetzt.
Im Gebiet zwischen dem Californianebel und den Plejaden befindet sich die etwa 5° große Perseus-Molekülwolke. Sie beherbergt in ihrem Westbereich einen unscheinbar anmutenden Nebel mit der Bezeichnung NGC 1333. Dieser liegt nahezu auf der Grenze zwischen Perseus und Taurus. Die Aufnahme entstand an drei Tagen: 12., 13. und 14.10.2023, und zwar auf der Kanareninsel La Palma, Las Tricias. Als Teleskop wurde ein Takahashi FSQ 106 ED eingesetzt, mit 106 mm Öffnung und 530 mm Brennweite. Ein Teil der Aufnahmen konnte wegen Wolkendurchzugs nicht verwendet werden, geblieben sind für dieses Bild 150 x 180 s (= 7,5 Stunden), alles ohne Filter. Wegen des Hochformats ist das Bild gekippt: Norden ist rechts, Osten oben.

NGC 1333 & Co. have been on my watch list for a long time. I have now implemented this on my astro vacation under the dark and clear sky of La Palma.
In the area between the California Nebula and the Pleiades is the approximately 5° large Perseus molecular cloud. In its western area it is home to an inconspicuous nebula called NGC 1333. This lies almost on the border between Perseus and Taurus. The recording was taken on three days: October 12th, 13th and 14th, 2023, on the Canary Islands of La Palma, Las Tricias. Telescope was a Takahashi FSQ 106 ED, with 106 mm aperture and 530 mm focal length. Some of the images could not be used due to cloud cover, but 150 x 180 s (= 7.5 hours) remained for this picture, all without a filter. Because of the portrait format, the image is tilted: north is on the right, east is at the top.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
