Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a small irregular galaxy located 40 million light years away in the constellation of Eridanus at a declination of -27 degrees.  It spans 1.7 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a small diameter of 25,000 light years.  I believe that the orange object is a small superimposed foreground Milky Way star.

SIMBAD indicates that this object, which looks like a single galaxy to my eyes, is actually comprised of 2 small dwarf galaxies, ESO-LV 421-0021 at the center of the 4 bright blue star forming regions on the left, and LEDA 15285 on the right.   If so, the 2 galaxies appear to be merging and are enveloped by a common star stream.
