Description

Death and Life in Cygnus. Abell 71 (PK085+04.1, Sh2-116) is the small blue object in upper left. It is a planetary nebula. Sh2-115 is the larger bluish emission nebula. The first is indicative of a planetary death, the latter a region of star birth.

Sharpless 2-115 lies about 7,500 light-years away. Hot stars in star cluster Berkeley 90 power the nebular glow.

Abell 71 is designated as a planetary nebula, but it has more recently been described as a small patch of emission nebula.

Narrowband S-H-O combination with RGB stars.
