Description

The Crab Nebula is at a distance of 6500ly from Earth with a diameter of about 11ly.  For comparison, the solar system is roughly 1ly in diameter, though the orbit of Pluto would only include a much smaller 0.00126ly diameter .  If the solar system was visible at the same distance as the Crab Nebula, it would appear as mostly empty space about 1/10 of the diameter.  Crab Nebula Trivia: The super nova that created it was observed in the year 1055.  Given the 6500 years it took for its light to reach earth, the instant the supernova occurred was approximately 7500 years ago, around the same time as the first known cheese.
