Description

The Hercules galaxy cluster, Abell 2151. This is a region rich in spiral galaxies, many of them interacting and rich in star forming regions. It forms part of the Hercules supercluster, and in turn part of the Great Wall superstructure. Well worth a zoom & pan to spot all the members of this "galaxy zoo". Notable galaxies include IC 1182 which has the result of a recent merger and shows 2 tidal tails, the more obvious being visible to the right-hand side in this image; IC 1181 and 1178, the two bright interacting galaxies towards the upper right of the cluster; IC 1179, another pair of interacting galaxies; and NGC 6040 and PGC 56942, interacting spiral and lenticular galaxies towards the left of the cluster. The brightest member is the elliptical galaxy NGC6041.
