Description

This image is of NGC 4244, also known as Caldwell 26, or commonly named the Silver Needle Galaxy.

It is an edge-on loose spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici, and is part of the M94 Group or Canes Venatici I Group, a galaxy group relatively close to the Local Group containing the Milky Way.  At 14 million light-years from earth this galaxy appears dim.  The stellar halo around the galaxy is faintly visible.

Taken from my backyard in the hills of the Blue Ridge in NC with a GSO RC8 at 1625mm, and a ASI071MC camera atop a SW EQ6r Pro mount.

Cheers
