Description

I’m very excited to present my latest and greatest shot: the Orion Nebula and the Running Man Nebula. Captured over three nights, this image is the result of 12.5 hours of exposures using an 80mm Svbony refractor and ASI2600MC pro camera.

The Orion Nebula (Messier 42) is about 1,350 light-years away, a bright and massive star-forming region visible even without a telescope. It’s a nursery for hundreds of young stars and is easily found below Orion’s Belt in the night sky. This 24-light-year-wide interstellar cloud is part of Orion’s sword, dangling elegantly from his iconic belt, and it glows with the radiance of the Trapezium Cluster, a quartet of massive stars at its heart.

A stone’s throw away in cosmic terms, the Running Man Nebula stands at about 1,500 light-years from Earth. It’s a reflection nebula that, with a bit of imagination, looks like a figure in motion. It’s known for its human-like silhouette, as if a cosmic runner, painted in strokes of reddish HII emissions and blue reflections, is eternally sprinting along the sword of Orion.

Both nebulae lie in the Orion constellation and are a sight to behold, but capturing them in such detail has been an absolute thrill. It’s amazing to think that we’re looking at the birthplace of stars, right from our backyard.
