I came across this object over a year ago when browsing Stellarium but didn't get around to imaging it until recently when I stumbled onto it again. The Propeller Nebula is a small part of a much larger Ha region in Cygnus.

I found that with just under 7hrs of data there was almost no signal in the green or blue channels so this is a particularly Ha-dominant image. I did what I could to pull some dynamic color into the situation with a color mask and some curves adjustments so it wasn't just a big cloud of red.

As far as workflow is concerned, pretty much the same as usual. Color balancing, noise reduction, stretching, star removal, and color adjustments were all done in Pixinsight. I saved off copies of the starless, color adjusted starless, red channel, luminance, and stars to be layered in Photoshop. The luminance layer had some unsharp mask applied. I used CRF on the color adjusted starless image which was blended with screen mode as opposed to color mode like I would normally do. I found it looked better. Levels, curves, vibrance, and contrast adjustment layers were added and tweaked. I copied the star layer into its own layer mask and adjusted the density of the mask to do some basic star reduction to taste. Stars were blended with screen mode thanks to unscreen in SXT.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
